General Policies

Attendance Policy

MidAmerica Nazarene University recognizes that working adults face multiple responsibilities. Since IAE class attendance is required only once a week, most adults can arrange their schedules to ensure attendance throughout the year. Those students who cannot make such arrangements should be aware of the division's attendance policy.

In our accelerated programs, attendance at each class session is a prerequisite for success. Therefore, students who miss class sessions will receive a reduction in grade in proportion to the number of sessions missed. Professors are also allowed, by policy, to reduce grades for tardiness. In extenuating circumstances, an absence may be excused. The excused absence must be made up in order to avoid a reduction in grade. Excused absences are granted at the discretion of the professor.

Professors may excuse absences for the following reasons:

  1. Illness (a doctor's note may be requested)
  2. Required business travel or military service (documentation may be requested)
  3. Severe weather
  4. Death in immediate family

Grading Policy

The MHR program is built on practical experience. Thus the preferred means of evaluating students is by hands-on assignments that demonstrate the students' ability to process the theory taught. Additionally, the grading system relies on individual performance in assignments rather than group projects.

Students may expect to be graded on a combination of written assignments, participation in class, attendance, occasional presentations and, occasional tests. Grade cards are usually received three weeks after the assignment is received. Each module is graded individually.

University Traditions

The historic and current commitment of the University to the ideal of intellectual, spiritual, and physical wellness precludes the use of tobacco, illegal drugs, or alcohol during university activities or on the campus.
